Dear professors, students, and anyone else who is interested,
Don’t miss our guest speaker this Wednesday, the 28th, at 12:10 p.m. in room 118.
His name is James Huffman, and he’ll be coming all the way from the Lewis and Clark Law School, in Portland, Oregon, to speak to us. His talk is entitled “The Evolution of the Common Law: Not an Invitation to Judicial Law Making”.
For you students especially, there are any number of reasons to attend this talk, and no good reason not to. You get a free lunch. It’s guaranteed to be intellectually stimulating. If you attend enough of these events, you get to claim participation in an extra-curricular activity, just for showing up. It’s also a rare chance to engage with (and even meet) a prominent scholar from another law school. (His list of publications is a mile long–check out the Bibliography or CV link at http://www.lclark.edu/dept/lawadmss/huffman.html .)
For everyone else, the talk should still be intellectually stimulating–and if all else fails, it is a free lunch.
Sincerely,
Edward Hyde

All,
Since there are a lot of interesting events happening next Wednesday, Student Ambassadors Training will be held Monday, February 2 at 12:05pm in Room 118. Everyone interested in becoming a student ambassador should come and learn about this important opportunity to spread the joy of UC College of Law. No worries if you could not make it to last week’s Student Ambassador meeting to sign up, just come on out and train! Now, you may be saying to yourself, “But I usually eat at that time.” This should not stop you from coming, as, like a bear on the cusp of hibernation, I am certain we will all have stored up enough food from Super Bowl Sunday to make it well into a Monday afternoon (This is of course in addition to the obvious solution of bringing your lunch to the training, and the fact that it should not last too long, leaving you plenty of time to enjoy a nutritious lunch). I may even have leftover cupcakes from my Super Bowl party…mmmm…. cupcakes. See, now I got you!
!
!
!
Mark your calendars and see you there,
Dan Brown

FRIDAY OCTOBER 31st is the annual SBA Halloween party at Jefferson Hall at Newport on the Levee. http://www.jeffersonhall.com/
The fun gets started at 8, with free beer, soda, and a couple of 100 free mixed well drinks until our tab runs out.
At 10, music by The Whammies, an 80’s cover band. http://www.myspace.com/thewhammiesband
Of course we’ll be having our annual costume contest, with great prizes like Barrister’s tickets, and BarBri course discounts.
Guests, dates, spouses, zombies, and vampires welcomed and encouraged, as are group and theme costumes.
Cabs encouraged, because DUI’s are very discouraging. Plus no one wants a mug shot in costume.
