J-Halloween Party Bus Instructions and FINAL REMINDER

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Greetings:

Just wanted to remind you all that the Halloween party will be this Saturday at 8pm at Jefferson Hall in Newport on the Levee! Come dressed to compete in our costume contest, where we will be giving away a pair of Barrister’s Ball tickets to the winner (this will save you quite a bit of $$ when Law prom rolls around).
As I stated in my previous message, I would highly recommend taking the bus or a cab since a) it is Halloween night and there will be a lot of crazy drivers out and b) there will be no temptation for you to be one of them. Having said that, cab fare to Newport on the Levee shouldn’t cost anymore than $5-7/person if you split a cab four ways, depending on where you are coming from, and less than that if you have more passengers.

Here are the bus directions as well, coming from Clifton:

Take the METRO 17 18 or 19 bus (or any other Metro bus except 31 41 51) to
Government Square, on Main Street (at the end of government square) walk catch
the TANK SouthBank Shuttle at the bus stop on Main and Fifth. Both Southbank
shuttles stop at this point so be sure to catch the one that says to Newport (not
Covington). It will drop you off at Newport on the Levee. Wait time will be no more
than 15 minutes at any time. It runs until midnight on Friday and Saturday. TANK
Fare is $1.25 per way. Metro fare is free as always.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the SBA officers. We look forward to seeing you there!

J-Hall-oween Party 2007!!

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Greetings Fellow Students ~

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, October 27. Starting at 8pm,
the SBA is hosting the annual law school Halloween party at Jefferson
Hall in Newport on the Levee. The party will last until the free beer
runs out. Costumes are a must, and per usual, there will be a contest
for the top three costumes with prizes to be announced as the date
gets closer!

Additionally, SBA will be providing bus information for those of you
that wish to use public transportation. We also highly recommend
sharing a cab if you don’t take the bus - especially if you plan on
drinking. This will also save money on parking.

More information will be announced as the date gets closer. In the
meantime, start planning your costumes!

event. It truly is world-renowned Kentucky horseracing at its finest.
To sign up, please email uclawsba@gmail.com as soon as possible. This
event is completely open–law students are allowed to bring as many

44 Ways to Raise Money for an SBA Group Event

day in the life: lunch money

Budgets are tight so here is a list of ways to raise some money. In general groups will have better success raising money outside the walls of the College of Law.

  1. Hold a bake sale.
  2. Ask a local law firm or business to sponsor an event.
  3. Sell hot dogs and water to students returning from the bars on Thursday, Friday and Saturday midnight to 3am.
  4. Sell T-Shirts promoting your club.
  5. Charge a cover for dinners or other events.
  6. Host a wine tasting.
  7. Volunteer for Night Walk
  8. King’s Island, Bengals games and Turfway Park have, in the past, allowed groups to work, sell, clean etc for money. Usually one night’s work at Turfway can raise 250-500 bucks.
  9. Host an auction.
  10. … This is a work in progress. Please post your ideas in the comments. They will be added to this list.

Freestore Foodbank

Friday, October 5th, 2007

The SBA is now collecting foodstuffs to be delivered to the Freestore Foodbank on a weekly basis. This means that we can even accept such semi-perishables as bread, pasta (uncooked of course), and boxed items in addition to the usual canned goods. This box will undoubtedly float around the cafeteria until it finds a more convenient home.

The SBA is also accepting any clothing donations we may have. Of particular interest, are items of women’s business apparel, which will be donated to Dress For Success Cincinnati. This great outfit(er)’s decription can be found below. Men’s and children’s clothing will be donated to Goodwill and Headstart. If the clothing box it is not in front of the student lounge, it may have been moved inside. Don’t let this discourage you. Open the door and step through. A wonderful world of foos-ball, comfortable couches, and television is waiting to help you unwind, and of coarse your donation is sure to be appreciated.

The following has been provided by Kitty Farias (thanks Kitty)
