The Sports & Entertainment Law Club is Proud to Announce
The softball tournament and BBQ will take place on April 19th, 2008 at Salway field. The softball games will start at 1:00pm but food and drinks will be begin at 12:30pm.
Administration, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend and even participate with a faculty team to challenge the great students of the law school. I hear many of our illustrious faculty used to be quite the athlete in their younger years so maybe they can dust off some of the cobwebs and give the current students a run for their money. Students who wish to participate in the tournament may submit their teams to us over the next two weeks. If you are not on a team but still wish to play you can give us your name and we will work to add you to a team already formed.
However, for those who just want to come out and have a good time hanging with their classmates, faculty & staff, and other attorneys, there will be plenty of food and drinks and great conversations. Cost of attendance will be $3 for advanced pay non-softball players, $5 for softball players, and $8 for those non-softball players who pay at the field. Following the completion of the games, prizes will be handed out to the winning team. In addition, there will be superlatives given out to individuals based on the performance and skills on the diamond.
In order to make the teams more competitive, there are some restrictions placed on the games. Each team must be coed. The games will go for 5 innings with a 15 run rule after the second and a 10 run rule after each inning following. Additionally, no member of a lineup may bat more than twice in an inning. All other rules will follow closely with the standard rules of softball.
We hope that everyone will come out and join us with this event. In addition to all the great food and competition, our very own Don Blair will be guest umpiring. He has agreed to make sure the games are decided fairly and that each team gets no preferential treatment. Tickets will be sold over the next few weeks. Exact dates will be provided sometime monday. But be sure to bring your friends, family, neighbors, random guy you met at gas stations, and even your boss that you were looking to find a way to butter up. The more people in attendance the more fun we will all have and the more people that will get to see some of the crazy softball you will ever see.
On Behalf of the Sports & Entertainment Law Club, LET’S EAT AND PLAY BALL!!!!
